About This Research
This research is being carried out as part of a PhD project at the University of Manchester. It uses Public Participatory GIS (PPGIS) to understand how people value the landscapes of the Lake District, and where they would — and would not — welcome landscape change.
What is PPGIS? Public Participatory GIS is an approach that uses mapping tools to gather local knowledge and lived experience from members of the public. Your responses will form part of a spatial dataset describing how people relate to places across the Lake District.
What does the survey involve? You will be asked a few background questions, then invited to mark two maps: the places you know best, and the places that are important to you or provide you with a benefit. You can mark as many separate places as you like on each map. There are no right or wrong answers — this survey is about your own knowledge and views.
How long will it take? Around ten minutes.
All data collected is completely anonymous. No personally identifiable information is stored. You may stop participating at any time without consequence.
